Celebrating the International Year of the Potato On-line

DENVER (February 7, 2008)—The United States Potato Board (USPB) recently bought prime real estate on the Food Network’s website, the internet’s number one food website with 7.5 million monthly visitors. Foodnetwork.com will be the yearlong home to a USPB potato micro-site, http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/foodbytes/text/0,,FOOD_9883_66450,00.html *, a page devoted to all things potato—International Year of the Potato recipes, a microwave mashed potato video, as well as nutrition and variety information. The USPB involves the essential on-line target audience in the International Year of the Potato fanfare.
In fact, on January 17, banner ads, or flashy advertisements, were prominently placed on the Food Network’s home page, hyping the International Year of the Potato, as well as the industry’s new campaign signature “Potatoes…Goodness Unearthed™,” urging visitors to “Get Digging!” or click thru for more information. This series of ads will run throughout the foodnetwork.com website for the next three months.
“This is a unique opportunity with the Food Network,” said Bart Connors, USPB Domestic Marketing co-chairman. “Our target market of busy ‘moms’ between the ages of 25 and 50 are some of the highest users of the internet to get meal ideas and nutrition information. I know my wife, who’s a teacher, is always going on-line to get new ideas for quick dinners. It’s important to have this kind of presence.”
Don’t forget the other on-line resources USPB provides to consumers: www.potatogoodness.com – the newly redesigned consumer website; and www.potatounderground.com – the USPB blog site, where visitors can ask questions, weigh in with their opinions and research the world of potatoes.
